AFRICAN BLACKWOOD - One of the best woods for making a call.
It is extremely heavy and dense. Because of this the sounds are
very clear, crisp, and can be heard at a greater distance. The
wood has a very high oil content, thus making it very resistant to the
effects of moisture. Due to its availability it is not used as
much as Cocobolo.
COCOBOLO - The next best wood for call making. It is not as
dense as African Blackwood, but it is very close. Cocobolo also
has a very high oil content which makes it very resistant to the effects
of moisture. This wood is one of the most widely used in call
making it produces a very clear and crisp sound which travels well.
BOCOTE - This is a slightly more porous wood than Cocobolo, but it
still has a high oil content. This still makes it moisture resistant.
This wood is a popular choice for call makers due to its density,
sounding ability, and stability.
